The Indie SD is hosting a show this week, which means free stuff, free giveaways, amazing music, and the kick ass energy of North Park’s U-31 with Los Angeles based rockers Nightmare Air. Cinco de Mayo celebrations aside, there are still a million and one parties you could attend this week in San Diego. So I’m going to help you narrow it down to a few choice celebrations that will make your Drink de Mayo feel like it was the start of one really amazing week. Music curators Cobra Heart are hosting one badass show this Wednesday at U-31. Despite their band name, Nightmare Air is more like an amazing dream that you don’t want to end. They self-describe their tunes as “energy, light and all the thick sounds in between” and I couldn’t agree more. This is one of those acts that you want to see in a setting like U-31, because now that they’ve played along heavy-hitters like The Smashing Pumpkins and TV on the Radio, their stunning songs are going to keep attracting a bigger fan base. If there’s anything I love, it’s the opportunity to witness an amazing band in an intimate setting.
They’re co-headlining with Roman Remains, an ethereal act with addictive melodies exhibited in an ominous but exciting cadence, and industrial electronic themes that would make Trent Reznor proud. Roman Remains are also streaming their entire EP online now (and I can’t stop listening…) via their official SoundCloud.
Among the night’s activities, The Indie SD will be hosting, which means come find me, Stephanie, for free gear: from band merch to tickets to upcoming events — including 91X’s X Fest. Wednesday night at U-31 is a music lover’s paradise — badass bands, amazing art, free stuff, and beer and booze. Your Hump Day just got much more interesting! .
U-31 is making it a two-day celebration, since the following night will feature the mesmerizing deep house tunes of DJ Lane 8 (from French Express) and The Deep End. And we have free tickets to give away, so you really have no excuses for missing out on this Thursday night party. Read more details on that over here.
